Well the fine weather landed just at the right time. I discovered Rhys one of our males was just starting to be affected by fly-strike on his back just above the tail. No fouling involved just wrinkly skin which lets the flies set up home more easily.
I had been watching him closely because he had the same problem last year but on his neck. This time I caught it before it got too bad so we were able to shear him, clean up the area and then treat with Cooper’s Spot On.
Seems to have responded well plus followed up with anti-inflammatory and pen-strep antibiotics.
Given the strong sunshine, I added in another couple of heavily fleeced males to shear. This meant there was a small group to put on Bank Side with him, close to the stables which makes treatment and monitoring for the next few days easier.
